What is a Toro cigar?

Updated: Feb 12, 2023

what is a toro cigar

Toro is one of the most appreciated cigar sizes amongst cigar smokers worldwide. Let’s see what makes Toros unique.

Toro Cigars' origin and smoking time

Toro ranks just behind Robustos in popularity. Historically called coronas gordas or “fat coronas,” Toro is the word in Spanish for “Bull.” We can agree with the people who named this cigar size after these strong, imposing animals. Toros offers a robust and stunning smoking experience lasting from 45 minutes to over an hour.

Toro Cigar Size

A traditional Toro is a parejo-shaped cigar that measures 6 to 6.5 inches long with a ring gauge of 52 to 54. A Toro can look similar to a Robusto cigar in size and shape but is technically a bit longer and slightly thicker. (Robustos traditionally are 50 ring gauge) Cigar aficionados love Toros because they’re not too big and they’re not too small. Toro is one of the three initial sizes of Chateau Diadem Premium cigars and is very appreciated among our clients.

Vegafina 1998 Vintage 1. This elegant format presents a potpourri of flavor sensations: sweetness and fruity acidity, herbal spice, and gentle pepperiness. In the creamy smoke of this cigar, there is a hint of the roasted flavors of coffee and the aromas of sponge cake.

Olivia Serie V Melanio, Limited Edition 2020 Toro Grande. As well as roasted and nut aromas, this cigar presents a malty cocoa sweetness with a fruity citrus note. This is followed by nutty, wood, coffee, leather, and earthy aromas in the thick smoke.

Cigar of the year La Flor Dominicana Cabinet Oscuro cigars are cloaked in Ecuador Sumatra wrappers that are dark enough to look like chocolate bars. A Dominican puro, this full-bodied cigar boasts tangy citrus, dark wood, and a subtle sweetness.
